Develop your immune system

With the threat of the Swine Flu here are some things you can do to maintain a strong immune system.

Eat fresh vegetables and fruits with a little bit of protein.

  • Bell peppers are loaded with Vitamin C - in fact, bell peppers have three times the amount of Vitamin C than fresh oranges. They also are loaded with Vitamin A.
  • Carrots are full of Beta-carotene (another source of Vitamin A).
  • Cauliflower has detoxifying compounds called isothiocyanates.
  • Grapefruit has 120 percent of the daily vitamin C needs in 1 cup.
  • Kiwi has 20 percent more Vitamin C than an orange.
  • Leeks have lutein, manganese and Vitamins A, C, and K.
  • Mangos have vitamins A, B-6 and C.
  • Mushrooms are full of immune-boosting complex-carbohydrate polysaccharides.
  • Papayas include fiber as well as vitamins C, A, E, and K.
  • Peaches have Vitamin C, antioxidant beta-carotene and potassium.
  • Butternut Squash has a huge amount of Vitamin A. This helps with your immune system.
  • Strawberries contain the most vitamin C of any of the commonly consumed berries.

Drink lots of water.

Water dilutes the toxins in the body and helps the body eliminate them quickly. Water is especially important if the flu is present. Sweating and or loss of fluid due to having diarrhea are common with the flu. Replace the fluids the body has eliminated by drinking plenty of water. Add lemon for an added boost.

Exercise.

Exercise helps the lymphatic system clear out the body of toxins. A swollen lymph gland indicates that the body is has toxins that it needs to dispose of.

What should be done if you get the flu.

  • Rest and drink a lot of fluids, particularly water.
  • Let the body sweat, even encourage it. The body eliminates toxins through perspiration. Make certain that the wet clothes and sheets are changed before they dry. They will be contaminated and will need to be laundered.
  • Keep an eye on any fever present. A fever is not necessarily a bad thing. It is the way the body tries to rid itself of toxins. Too high of a fever is cause for concern. Anything over 102 degrees should be closely monitored.
  • Keep in contact with your doctor and follow his directions.

Antibiotics are useless!

Antibiotics are useless against the flu. Antibiotics are used for bacterial infections. The flu of any sort is a viral infection and therefore antibiotics will be of no use. Do not be surprised or upset if your doctor does not prescribe them
